“Faith is taking the first step even when you can't see the whole staircase.”

 ― Martin Luther King Jr.

Gary A. Tate Jr.

Gary spent his earlier years under the influence of the many individuals that were a part of his life within his Eastside neighborhood in Columbus, Ohio. A graduate of West High and an alumnae of Otterbein college, Gary was encouraged to strive for excellence and personal accountability in taking control of his own educational success.

Over the years Gary has worked with children in various capacities within the Parks and Recreation System, as well as spending several years working with The Ohio State University’s NYSP/LIFE Summer Program promoting youth development and teaching life skills through sports. Receiving his Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Otterbein University (as well as a Master of Education Degree from Grand Canyon University in Educational Leadership), Gary went on to serve six years as a classroom teacher and currently has 13 years of experience as an administrator. A member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.

Gary has spent over twenty years mentoring young men in both the academic and sports arena. Gary’s passion for education and sports has led him to explore the dynamics of finding excellence on and off the field. In his documentary film “Da Haven,” we follow the story of a powerhouse inner city football team that managed to defy the odds and win the city it’s first (and only) state championship football game during an unprecedented year in football history.
